Dudley Raine IV is a freelance violist and teacher currently living in New York City. Dudley is a founding member of the opus87 piano quartet, and performs frequently as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral player. A student of Karen Ritscher, Dudley maintains a studio of his own, teaching both the violin and viola. Dudley has recorded music for an upcoming independent film, made an appearance on the Food Network, and recorded for several studio albums. He has attended summer music programs including the Chautauqua Institute, Miami Music Festival, Wintergreen Summer Music Academy, and Summit Music Festival. For the past two years, Dudley has been assistant faculty at the James String Quartet Summer Camp in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Dudley's recent engagements included performing new vocal chamber music commissioned for his ensemble, Scorrevole, as part of a residency in Cortona, Italy. He has also performed in the Lincoln Center Out of Doors series. In the upcoming season, Dudley will be curating a concert featuring scordatura works for solo viola, performing in his own chamber arrangement of the Franck violin sonata, and playing on the premiere of Eric Salzman's final work at Symphony Space. Dudley can be seen performing for SPN Events, as a resident artist in the City Concert Society, and in the resident ensemble at Manhattan's historic Calvary Church in Gramercy.
Outside of music, Dudley is a competitive distance runner; this past November, he ran the New York City marathon with a time of 4'28".
